My lovable little boy Who brings me so much joy With ribbons, titles and wins For your performance in the ring Fetch and retrieve was your favorite game Until arthritis left us both quite lame Still we played with fervor and passion Knowing well our time was rationed Among the pack you were shy and reserved But you gave me more than I deserved When all I wanted was a floppy-eared puppy That made me laugh through life's tough journey As your heart grows weak and weary My heart and eyes too grow teary That you won't be with me too much longer Yet our love bonds grow even stronger For I too have a damaged heart A major cause of our drifting apart With medications we both carry on And enjoy each other from dusk to dawn I cherish our times of fun and frolic Attending dog shows was our favorite hobby Your consistent performance in conformation Left little doubt of your recognition I thank you for your love and kisses During our cardiac issues and death near misses Despite our age we still plug along Encouraging each other with spirits strong Rest easy now my little man God knows I did for you all I can To protect you and make your well To cardiac illness your body fell Onto the path of the Bridge with colors To romp and play with all the others Who left this earth a long time ago But wait for me and my grieving soul When we enter heaven's green filled pastures And live joyfully in the here-ever-after I hold tight all our treasured times As I remember you were always mine Braxton, the Cavalier with long silky ears Who loved me dearly for many years Love, hugs and kisses, Your Mom
